A fracture that occurs to the lower end of the long bone that runs below the knee and above the ankle (tibia). Plafond fractures are commonly caused by high-energy trauma such as motor vehicle accidents or falls. Symptoms include: severe pain, swelling, bruising, tenderness, and an inability to bear weight.
